Q: Can I bow fish for northern pike in the winter?
A: Bow fishing has been growing in popularity since 2009 when laws were changed to allow for night bow fishing. If we examine the definition of bow fishing in Minnesota statute 97A.015 it defines the activity of bow fishing as taking rough fish by archery where the arrows are tethered or controlled by an attached line. The law permits the taking of rough fish only, not game fish. Northern pike is a game fish.
So to answer your question, no you can’t bow fish for northern pike, or any game fish, in Minnesota during anytime of the year.
