Central Park fish rescue makes a splash - New York Post

Something’s fishy in Central Park.

A big fish somehow ended up in the Bethesda Fountain — leading to a noon attraction as workers defiantly captured the slippery critter, according to photos and a witness.

Dozens of parkgoers cheered on members of the Central Park Conservancy as they strategically wrangled the fish using a mesh fence and a fish net.

The workers — dressed for the part in waders — first used the fencing to establish a perimeter inside the fountain waters.

They then gradually shrunk the perimeter, hemming the swimmer into tighter quarters to make the task of scooping it easier.

But the frisky fish proved difficult to catch.

“It took them multiple attempts to catch the fish,” said witness Dan Callister.

Once they finally after managed to fish their catch out of the water, the crowd erupted in cheers.

“They scooped it with the crowd cheering,” said Callister, “and walked it over to boating lake where they release it — to more cheers.”

It’s unclear how the fish ended up in the fountain, which is just steps away from the lake.

The Central Park Conservancy didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
