The Free Agent market is heating up!
The Marlins have yet to make any major signings this offseason, but Derek Jeter spoke to the press Tuesday about the club’s strategy in the free agent market this winter.
Not only do I expect the Marlins to spend money this offseason, I believe they could soon. 2 bats. Bullpen arms etc. They won’t be of the longer term variety but they will add. It’s coming. (FA/Trades) https://t.co/5IfZkrWltI

But wait, the Fish did sign a free agent, minor-league catcher Brian Navarreto, formerly of the Twins’ and Yankees’ systems. He is known more for his glove than his bat, but he will provide needed depth for the organization at the position.
Fish Stripes has more free-agent ideas in our Deep Sea Fishing series. Avisail Garcia dropped today. Brock Holt and Greg Bird debuted last week. Links to everyone else we’ve discussed can be found at the bottom of each piece, too.
(Behold! MLB Trade Rumors linked the Fish and Garcia shortly after his Deep Sea Fishing did.)
Griffin Conine appeared on the latest episode of our Fish Bites podcast.
NEW: Thank you @Griffin_Co9 for coming on Fish Bites!!!

Our own Juan Páez says Jorge Alfaro is just a few degrees of launch angle away from a breakout in 2020. Y también lo explica en español.
Sandy Alcantara and José Ureña were both featured in Pitcherlist.com’s video of baseball’s nastiest pitches.
‘Tis the season
Alcantara is only nasty on the field, however, as he’s been gathering baseball equipment to donate back in his native Dominican Republic.
“Next year we will do more!” ✊
Sandy Alcantara hosted multiple charity events in 2019, collecting thousands of dollars’ worth of youth baseball equipment. Last weekend, he delivered the donations to Dominican little leaguers. https://t.co/puZR43QGMR

Sandy isn’t the only Marlin in the spirit of giving either. Don Mattingly is currently holding his annual benefit auction for kids in his hometown.
The Marlins as an organization also made a recent donation, cutting a $20,000 check to Feeding South Florida.
Fun Fish links...
If you like true crime, and also baseball, well then this is the story for you. It chronicles former Marlin Justin Mayne’s fall from future star to inmate. (And if you’d like to read something of a time capsule, be sure to click on the link to the eight-player trade that brought Mayne to the organization.)
The Jax Shrimp have become an intriguing follow on Instragram, where they have been slowly releasing their own comic book centered around the team.
Finally, it’s always fun to close with highlights, so here you can relive the Marlins’ top wins of 2019.
